The article reveals the position of Lvov region residents regarding members of other ethnic groups based on Bogardus scale chosen for the study of ethno-social distance. The author's definition of «social distance» is presented and the author's technique to study the relationship between the experience of staying abroad and the relationship to other national groups is demonstrated. A comparative analysis is made of the level of distancing in relation to the representatives of «other» national/ethnic groups on the basis of several studies, including an omnibus study of the city of Lvov and the region that was carried out by the Department of History and Theory of Sociology of the Franko Lvov National University, and the all-Ukraine monitoring «Ukrainian society» conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the NAS of Ukraine. A comparative analysis is presented of the level of distancing of the Lvov region inhabitants who had some work experience abroad, and those who had no such experience.
