The paper presents theoretical approaches to tracking the development of the general cultural competency GC-1 in biology students. The essence of this bioethical competency is to adhere to ethical and legal norms in relation to other people and nature. Special attention is given to the substantiation of the first stage, the development of knowledge in bioethics. The article discusses the question of compilation and application of a test in bioethics based not only on the content of the curriculum subject, but also on the principles and methods offered by testology and enabling the assessment of student knowledge of implementation of bioethical principles in professional work and life. Tests were tried out among students of the Faculty of Biology of the Nizhni Novgorod State University during a pedagogical experiment.
