The article considers some methodological peculiarities of presenting the material related to modeling and formalization in the framework of the course "Theory and methods of teaching computer science". A matrix of competencies of future teachers of computer science and ICT is built, which provides the basis for the general model of the teacher's professional competence. A technological map is presented as the main tool for the realization of the methodological system for developing professional competencies in the field of modeling and formalization, appropriate diagnostic tools are described. In the course of the technological map design, a logical structure of the curricular material is specified in the form of a sequence of didactic units to be studied, which are divided into groups. The composition and structure of these units determines the number of zones of the learner's nearest development and the duration of each zone.
