Abstract
This article addresses the issue of philosophical foundations of the political and legal tradition of the Modern Age. We analyze the influence of rationalism on the formation of the key characteristics of modern legal thinking. The author considers the 17th century’s natural law concepts, the theory of social compact and the mechanistic view of the state to be the most significant manifestations of the rationalistic spirit of the Modern Age legal philosophy.
