Abstract
The aim of the study was to identify specific features of the genre strategy of Boris Akunin's novel «The Falcon and the Swallow». In this paper, basing on the principles of comparative historical literary studies, we analyze specific features and mechanisms of transformation of the pirate novel genre into a model of a postmodern detective story. It was found that Boris Akunin in this novel plays with the genre nature of the work. In particular, a pirate novel is subject to parody. On the one hand, there are some external attributes of a pirate novel and a mysterious island; there is an element of competition in the treasure hunt; memoir form of presentation is used; the romance of corsair life is described. On the other hand, the external attributes become a parody. This is indicated by the figure of the narrator (a parrot), by the stylistic reduction of the narrative, by the feminization of the female characters and by the main character's lost hope to find the treasure in the final.
