The range of issues and the poetics of Z. Prilepin's novel «The Abode» are considered. The aim of the study is to analyze the plot and the compositional structure of the work and the main components of its concept. The poetics of the novel is interpreted as a literary experiment. It is argued that the structure of the novel’s plot is determined by several basic patterns, namely, the use of the structure of a picaresque novel, the «sine wave» principle and the «mirror» principle. We analyze the structure of the culminating episode in the development of the work’s idea. The dual nature of the culmination is regarded as a literary device that helps to achieve artistic objectivity. By means of a structural and descriptive study, the dialectical relationship between the principles of poetics and the expression of the novel’s main ideas is established.
