The «Ecclesiastical History» by the Venerable Bede is the main source for studying ecclesiastical and political histo- ry of Anglo-Saxon kingdoms till the early 8th century, but it is also an outstanding example of early medieval historical thought. Bede’s cultural and historical views were based on the synthesis of Christian Latin learning and pagan tradition, which was widespread among the author's contemporaries. This article is an attempt to analyze Bede’s views on women in the context of this synthesis.
