Abstract
The paper examines the influence of the pension legislation on demographic and migration processes in the Rus- sian Empire during the 18th-19th centuries. The authors compare mechanisms of legal regulation of migration in the pension law of imperial Russia and in the modern Russian legislation. Historical experience of solving migration is- sues by means of the pension law is summarized.
