We consider the phenomenon of precedence of the text in line with the phenomenological idea that human con- sciousness reveals itself in any action and in any of its experiences by freely exercising the act of creation «ex nihilo». The study of the content and structure of the story by P. Sanaev «Bury Me Behind the Baseboard», which is «second- ary» in relation to the original text, identifies the main ways for introducing the elements of the precedent text («The Childhood» by Maxim Gorky). These ways include the metaphorization of the situation that underlies the conflict, the reconstruction of the precedent name and its actualization, which give rise to similar emotional experiences in the read- er. The need to study the ontology of Gorky's spiritual experience and his literary legacy is emphasized.
