Theaim of the article is to define national stereotypes and the ways of their representation in M. Chabon's novels. M. Chabon is one of the most famous contemporary American authors, 2001 Pulitzer Prize laureate. The author of the article focuses her attention on four novels - The Mysteries of Pittsburgh , Wonder Boys, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and The Yiddish Policemen‘s Union , which are translated into Russian. M. Chabon ironically rethinks and revises the stereotypes of American mass culture, and they from the image of the nation as a whole. He uses names of celebrities, things and phenomena, which are familiar and clear to any American and the representatives of other nations. They are generally associated with the USA - “American Dream”, equality of possibilities and rights, the myth of America as a chosen nation, comprehension of the Nazism and the Holocaust, and the images and symbols of mass culture and literature.
