In that article the perception of national mentalities and national cultures specifics by the modern American writer Dan Simmons is considered on the example of novels «Ilium»/»Olympos», «Flashback», «Drood» and others. The purpose of our work is identification, analysis and explanation of author's perception of various national features specifics. Simmons not only considers national lines, but also analyzes their emergence in works of art of these or those countries and eras. For achievement of these purposes comparative-historical and cognitive methods were used. Cultural and national codes are one of the main receptions used by Simmons for creation the art reality and for expression the author's relation to the problems and questions of the real world.
