The goal of this article is analysis of the diary in the XVII - th century American literature as a genre and as a form. In this article "Diary" after S.Sewall and diary form of some works of the XVII-th century American literature are researched. Research methods: sistematic, historical-literary, biographical. "Diary" after S.Sewall attracts all sides and periods of author's active and varied life, demonstrates a wide panorama of events - from momentary to historical . The diary form is present in the works, which differ on genre, problem and style: "Of Plymouth plantation" by W. Bradford, "The wonders of invisible world" and "Curiosa americana" by C.Mather. The genre of diary is very notional in the XVII - th century American literature, because this genre had exactly opportunity full to note and to think over events in this very important period of the formation of american nation.
