The article examines the genre of German folk songs St?ndelieder in perspective of reflection of the German cultural code. The work aims to reveal the key genre features and to state the presence of the German national-cultural codes. The methodology is based on complex approach, combining cultural and musicological, and analytical methods. The conditions of existence of the genre are identified, typological content, called musical characteristics of the songs, is defined. Marked specificity of music imaginary: extramusical and intramusical. The conclusion is made about the superiority of this method in professional song culture (Lied im Volkston). The novelty of the work lies in determining how to classify genre: in modern Russian musicology they are not developed.
