The paper aims at reviewing some ethno-cultural aspects of translation from the view point of the national code functioning in fiction. The review makes extensive use of comparative analysis of Jens Sparschuh novel «Der Zimmerspringbrunnen» and its translation into Russian to single out some features peculiar to German culture which present challenges for translation due to existing lacunas in Russian cultural concept sphere. Applying methods of contrastive analyses the study suggests ways to bridge the lacunarity in Russian cultural code as well as to determine mechanisms of cultural adaption as means of dealing with problematic points of translation studies.
