Using comparative method on the material of novels “The Serious Game” by Hjalmar S?derberg, “Benny and Srimp” by Katarina Mazetti, “A Winter in Stockholm” by Agneta Pleijel and “Small Yellow Lemons” by Kajsa Ingemarsson the author reveals culturally significant topics: children, family relations and an opposition of city and country. Furthermore, such feature as prepotency of a female perspective on vicissitudes of life, regardless of the fact if a woman is the main character or not, is revealed in the report. Setting a goal to define, what facts of life are forming the Swiss identity, the author comes to the conclusion that they are: women’s intellectual supremacy, which is shown in the texts, extreme individualism, painful attitude towards childbearing. The opposition of city and country as a display of gender expression proved to be the most important issue in the novels.
