In the article under analysis it is given consideration to Sue Townsend’s creative work in terms of demonstration of such subtle matter as «Englishness». The purpose of the paper is to specify which concepts of the phenomenon «Englishness» are reflected in the large-scale creation - the series of books «The Diaries of Adrian Mole». In the course of the research historical-literary, cultural-historical and systematic methods are employed. The following conclusions can be made. The national culture of the authoress is made up of rich cultural heritage of England. Following traditions and being under the influence of various factors (language, history, sociocultural environment), Townsend created her own specific character of an eccentric, a well-known linguistic and cultural type in English literature. With much talent Sue Townsend kept and continued the comic and satirical traditions in the novels that can be regarded as the distinctive chronicle of the country.
