In the German author’s satirical novel a picture of contemporary German society is shown, and the priorities of this society are highlighted. The aim of this paper is to study the features of contemporary German life and their criticism in Timur Vermes’s debut novel. The methods used by the author of the paper are typical for literary studies, and include historical, cultural, biographical and analytical approaches. The results of the study have shown that not only does the writer criticize contemporary German life, especially politics and mass media, but also wants to represent the reality and worldview of today’s West-European society. In conclusion the peculiarities of T. Vermes’s satire and style are discussed.
