The article touches upon the problems of the so-called cross-cultural or multicultural literature. The reason of this phenomenon is the collapse of the colonial system and the creation of the postcolonial space which became one of the most important events of the XX century. The phenomenon of «reactive colonization» -- the inhabiting of the former metropolis by the citizens of the former Empire - leads to the birth of some particular kind of culture and literature, which is now called multicultural. We try to give a wide analysis of the British cross-cultural literature, to generalize and find the features which makes the hybrid outlook of authors with non-British roots who write in English.
