| Based on the analysis of the monuments of medieval visionary literature, the views of medieval people concerning the main spatial characteristics of the otherworld (stratification, correlation and functions of its segments) are investigated. The paper examines the process of changing the structure of the otherworld in consequence of the formation of the idea of posthumous redemption and purgatory. |
