We consider the national level of criminal law regulation as one of the three levels (international, domestic, and national). The aim of the article is to show, based on the historical method of research, the dynamics of the development of legislation in Russia in the sphere of criminal law regulation, with the account of the changes that have occurred both in criminal law and public relations. The updated needs of members of society requiring the analysis and solution are also taken into consideration. In this context, one should consider the features of the development of various nationalities living in Russia. These features, for example, the customs and traditions should be taken into account when improving the existing criminal law in Russia.
