Abstract
In this article, the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (the 1972 Stockholm Conference) is characterized: the background and the course of the conference, its final documents and decisions. The fundamental role of the conference is emphasized in establishing the global environmental cooperation, the international environmental law as a branch of public international law, and the civil worldwide movement for the "green" planet. Particular attention is also given to the conference’s final documents and their role in the formation of modern environmental standards.
