The article deals with some problems of forensic handwriting examination in cases when documents were performed with an altered handwriting. We give a classification of the altered handwriting and describe the system of informative characteristics indicating the influence of some categories of «misleading» factors on the process of writing. The article highlights the features of the modern multilevel methodology of the research of altered handwriting. An approximate algorithm is presented for identification of persons who wrote questionable documents in unusual conditions. Some issues related to the training of students on this topic are also covered.
