The article explores the stylistic peculiarities of the satirical novel «100 Years and a Suitcase Full of Cash to Go with It» (orig. «The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of His Window and Disappeared») by J. Jonasson. The novel’s structure is a great example of the shift from the «big historical narratives» to the meta-texts where the history is depicted as a set of eccentric events that speculate on stereotypical perception of famous people and the way they act. As the analysis gets more sophisticated, the author concludes that the story has some traits of a political anecdote as well as elements of the criminal, detective and adventurous and romance novels. The author reveals intertextual references to A. Lindgren’s prose. Jonasson’s main goal appears to be the analysis of the significance of the personality in history, «the meaning of history», its moving factors and peculiarities of the Swedish self-identity.
