Abstract
We study the main stages and features of the development of criminological theories and research trends in Finland and Sweden at the end of the 20th - early 21st century concerning the problems of violent crime in those countries. The dynamics of absolute and relative figures reflecting homicides in these countries from 1950 to 2010 is examined. Territorial peculiarities of this type of crime are identified. Based on the materials of criminal statistics, victimological characteristics of criminal murders are analyzed. Perpetrators of criminal murder are categorized and grouped in relation to employment and unemployment. The results of the Finnish and Swedish experts' studies tracking the effects of alcohol on the mortality level associated with criminal homicide are presented.
