In this article, by using the comparative-historical and integral method of literary work analysis, we examine some specific features of interpreting the Bildungsroman tradition in M. Shishkin's novels. It has been established that in his novel «Larionov's Notes» the action develops according to the classical Bildungsroman scheme: it is a narrative of the protagonist's spiritual journey aimed at achieving internal harmony and spiritual maturity. Building on the tradition of Goncharov's «An Ordinary Story», Shishkin in his «Larionov's Notes» not only uses the Bildungsroman elements (monocentrism, specific imagery system, composition determined by the stages of the protagonist's coming of age), but also extends the Bildungsroman tradition through stylization and irony.
