The paper presents the results of quantitative and qualitative content analysis of publications on Russian and Soviet history in the regional newspaper «Gorkovskiy Rabochiy» during the Perestroika years (1985-1991). Particular attention is given to such topics as political repression campaigns in the Soviet Union, the so-called Leniniana, and to some new approaches to the representation of the Great Patriotic War. The author demonstrates some specific features of «the big history» revision in the regional context and analyzes the role of professional historians in this process.
