The article considers the role of prosecutors in the legal support of economic reforms, the development of civilized market relations, protection of bona fide business and freedom of economic activity. Theoretical approaches and principles are determined for the main areas of prosecutor's supervision over the implementation of laws on the freedom of economic activity. We analyze a wide range of views in western and Russian literature on the role of the state and the extent of its impact on the economy, personal freedom, and producers. Conservative, liberal and natural law concepts of theoretical approaches to the problem are considered. It is emphasized that the principles of protection of economic rights of citizens are fundamental in working out the strategy for the development of the legal base of entrepreneurship and its adaptation to modern conditions. We also define the principles that form the basis of the concept of legal regulation of the economy. The place and role of the state and law are determined taking into account the need to maintain the optimum balance between freedom of economic activity and government regulation of the market.
