The article examines the background and features of social regulation as well as some of its methods. We consider the preconditions for the formation of the legal regulation mechanism, the state's participation in this process and social characteristics of the legal regulation mechanism. The social nature of the mechanism of legal regulation and its place in the system of social regulation of society are characterized. Some social elements in this mechanism are analyzed, the dependence of the mechanism and its structural elements on social development trends is considered.
