This article presents a comparative study of the novels «Crime and Punishment» by Dostoyevsky and «The Outcast» by Lagerl?f. The aim of the study is to reveal parallels in philosophical and ethical issues of the two works, in the characters and in their evolution by means of a comparative-typological method of research. The author comes to the conclusion that many of Dostoyevsky’s problems and ideas are reinterpreted in the novel by Lagerl?f. In particular, we can see some similarities in the understanding of Christian ethics, the relation between the categories of justice and mercy, the problem of a person's spiritual renovation, the interpretation of love as a resurrecting force. The protagonist in the novel by Lagerl?f combines the features of both main characters in «Crime and Punishment» - Raskolnikov and Sonya Marmeladova.
