The paper examines the visit of the German Emperor Wilhelm II to Palestine in the autumn of 1898, which was virtually unexplored by Russian historians, and its reflection in the Russian periodical press of the period (August- December 1898). By investigating leading newspapers («Novoe vremya», «Pravitelstvennyi vestnik», «Moskovskie vedomosti», «Birzhevye vedomosti», «Peterburgskaya gazeta», «Peterburgskii listok», «Russkii trud»), the author discusses the reasons and objectives of the visit as they were viewed by Russian publicists, and also Palestine’s place and future in the imagined system of international relations. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the materials presented by the journalists P.N. Dubno, K.K. Rosenblum, V.N. Khitrovo, V.A. Shuf.
