Based on the materials of the Russian periodicals of the late 19th century, this article considers Russia’s policy in Africa. The author notes the systematic interest of the Russian periodicals for the African continent and its strategic and economic opportunities for Russia. It is also noted that the Russian journals and newspapers of the late 19th century reflected the essence of contradictions in the Russian government with respect to Russia’s policy in Africa. The author shows the Russian public's attitude towards the idea of colonial penetration of Russia into Africa.
