Abstract
In this article, we present a review of the mechanisms of speech influence as the most important part of the political discourse. Its characteristics are analyzed on the example of the public speech of King George VI of Great Britain and Northern Ireland declaring war on Germany in 1939. It is shown that public speaking is often of a manipulative nature that implies the presence of some hidden purposes not declared in the speech. The study of the manipulative nature of public speaking helps to understand the causes of many social and historical phenomena. One of the methods of studying public speaking is content analysis that reveals its manipulative nature and shows the real, objective and inherent aims of every speech.
