Abstract
The article for the first time systematizes the information about Russian translations of the works of the English poet Alfred Tennyson, which are considered to be unfound («Enoch Arden» by I.A. Bunin, translations by S.M. Gorodetsky, N.S. Tikhonov and others), unpublished (translations by E.S. Kudasheva, I.G. Shumsky and others) or forgotten («Warrior Dead» by the English polyglot scientist Donald McAlister, translation of the cradle song «Sweet and low, sweet and low, / Wind of the western sea...» made by L.N. Martynov in Omsk in the middle of the 1940s («The Wind of These Shores») and others). By using the methods of historiographical research, the author underlines the significance of the works on Russian reception of Tennyson’s poetry in translation that were published during the last two decades. At the same time, the author points out that this problem needs to be studied in more detail and outlines the prospects and areas for further work aimed at discovering unknown and forgotten texts.
