The article examines two stories by well-known Swedish writers and journalists Per Wahl?? and Maj Sjowall. The aim of the study is to analyze the latent conflict between the outwardly prosperous society and the police that has the task of protecting it. We show the attitude to the police of different layers of society and age groups: young people, pensioners, the wealthy class, and offenders as reflected in their opinions about the representatives of law enforcement agencies. We examine the caste system and the "closeness" of law enforcement officers, their attitude to service, and the relations between policemen. The main methods and techniques of crime detection are also considered. It has been demonstrated that the stories present an analysis of the policemen's image as one of the social types contemporary to the authors and of the events in the policemen's daily life. We conclude that the attitude of law enforcement officers to criminals and society reflects the problems of society as a whole.
