In this article, we present an analysis of the concept of «art history journal» and its place in the typology of the mass media. The difficulty in identifying the typological characteristics of the media and the lack of a unified terminology pose a challenge to the classification of contemporary art history journals. The authors systematize the typologies of modern print media proposed by leading researchers in the field of mass communication and identify typological characteristics relevant to the selection of art history journals in a separate typological group, which is heterogeneous, but has pronounced specific characteristics. Such factors as the functions of the media, audience and publisher play an important role in determining the type of publication.
