The article examines two novels by contemporary British writer Graham Joyce. The aim of our analysis is to discover the specific features of the interpretation of the dying-and-rising god motif in the novels «House of Lost Dreams» and «The Stormwatcher». For this purpose, the comparative method as well as the methods of ritual-mythological research are used. We show the role of the motif in the compositional structure of Graham Joyce's novels. The motif of dying-and-rising god in the author's interpretation is linked with puberty rites. The final goal of the writer is to find out the ontological grounds of human being. Graham Joyce often regards love to be the universal source of transfiguration and renewal.
