The article focuses on the reception of Jeanne d’Arc by Karolina Pavlova, a Russian poet of the 19th century. It investigates how the author became interested in the figure of Jeanne d’Arc, what was the source for this interest in the views of Pavlova and how the image of the French medieval heroine is treated in the poem «Jeanne d'Arc» written by Pavlova in French. Close reading of the poem allows us to identify and describe the motifs which accompany the image of the Maid of Orleans. Based on the contrastive analysis of these motifs with the key motifs related to the theme of creativity in the work of Pavlova, the conclusion is made that they are nearly identical, which means that the tragic story of Jeanne d’Arc could be seen as a metaphor for the destiny of a woman poet.
