The article deals with the dynamic processes within the conceptual field «Literature». The paper is aimed at showing the changes that occur in the thesaurus of young Russians. The conventional nature of current literature-centred ideas is changing under the influence of consumption culture technologies and errors in the established programs and models of readers' behaviour. The Russian literary myths cultivated at school get into distinct controversy with the readers' practices and current challenges. The analysis of associative dictionaries and the results of massive polls among the young people have provided the basis for conclusions about the controversial outlines of the associative field «Literature» in the youth thesaurus. The axiological scale of this part of the thesaurus is mainly defined by the cliches acquired rather than by individual experience in reading, which becomes obvious when the axiological characteristics within the «Russian literature - foreign literature - modern literature» trine are compared.
