The article examines the state of the Nizhni Novgorod uyezd gentry corporation during the Time of Troubles. We present the results of a comparative analysis of the land record description of the Nizhni Novgorod uyezd for 1612/13 and the Nizhni Novgorod lists of military men in 1607. An interpretation is proposed of the differences in the details of the above-mentioned sources. Our findings give an insight regarding the status of landowners, the economic state of their possessions, and the structure of land tenure. It is concluded that comparative studies of such documents hold promise for future research.
