The paper is devoted to Shakespearean code of A. Chekhov’s «theatre» short stories of the 1880s as the manifestation of architextuality of his style. The comparative analysis of the short story «Kalhas» and the one-act play «Lebedinaja pesnja» («Swan-song») showed that dramatization of the plot changes the functions of quotations from Shakespeare: they become part of the code and thereby significantly expand the semantics of the story. |
