Abstract
Access to information and gradual transition to information society at the present stage of high technology development have put important tasks before higher education institutions providing journalism training. In market economy conditions, it is necessary for media business and academic community to interact in order to devise the requirements for professional competence of journalism department graduates. The development of general cultural and professional competencies should be achieved within the educational process and through active extracurricular work of teachers with students.
