Abstract
Methodological foundations of learning aimed at second language acquisition by science students are considered. Second language educational methodology is entirely determined both in terms of the process of acquiring the necessary competencies and with regard to other fundamental constituents of learning: purposes, content, achievement assessment. The idea of a universal methodology is described in respect of its function and position in the didactic system.
